Procedure

Evaluating the group of patients that are to benefit from the implemented system, as well as their required care precedes the actual construction of a Disease Management System.

The decision process is guided by assessing the actual number of patients (how big is the problem) and the present quality of given care (optimizing performance).

Then Stichting Zorgvernieuwing Nederland (SZN) is approached to initiate a Content Board with sufficient knowledge and know-how to decide on the content of a Disease Management System. In addition to a chairperson, expert representatives from the various health care disciplines i.e. specialists, general practitioners and nurse practitioners are invited to participate in further development.
The Foundation (SZN) coordinates the content board development process; it takes between six to twelve months to reach completion. The Content Board specifies the existing guidelines to be used and advises in situations where there is no consensus.

Based on the specified guidelines a decision is made regarding which data must be accumulated and the form in which they are reproduced. In this way an image evolves of the record-part content of the software.

CURIT builds a Disease Management System based on the Content Board’s advice. Guidelines are integrally processed in the knowledge-system, which is an intrinsic part of the system. The Disease Management System is equipped to advise conform the guidelines and to maximally support diagnostics and treatment.
